LucasArts' next-gen Indiana Jones title was supposed to be the first game on the market to utilize NaturalMotion's Euphoria physics and animation engine, as well as the studio's own Digital Molecular Matter technology. That didn't happen. Instead, both GTA IV and Star Wars The Force Unleashed arrived using the Euphoria system, with the latter being the debut of DMM and all of its wood-splintering, metal-bending glory.
Back in 2008, rumors swirled that the project, which had gone dark since 2006, was (and wasn't) canned, and there would be with a confidence-boosting trailer during September, announcing a release of 2009. That didn't happen either. Despite apparent assurances to the contrary not 7 months ago, when LucasArts had their own share of internal troubles last year, they quietly canceled the Xbox 360/PS3 version of Indy's adventure... in favor of pushing out Indiana Jones and the Staff of Kings for the Wii. Which was awful. Apparently the game suffered from heaps of development/quality problems and was just not shaping up to be a worthwhile endeavor for the publisher.
Now, courtesy of Unseen 64, new screens and footage (of both the pre-viz and early test animation variety) of the next-gen Staff of Kings have emerged, showing us what we're never going to play. Disappointed? I sure am. But hey, if it sucked, maybe it's for the best.
