Meet Sledgehammer Games, Activision's newest studio

Not long after they laid-off staffers from Raven Software, nearly all employees from 7 Studios and shut down Shaba Games, Activision announce their newest internal development studio, Sledgehammer Games, located just south of San Francisco in Foster City. This is the house which former Visceral Games execs Glen Schofield and Michael Condrey jumped ship to back during the summer. Sledgehammer are "currently in development on an as-yet-unannounced new videogame."

"Michael and I are thrilled to be building a brand new studio for Activision," said Vice President, Glen Scholfield. "This was an opportunity for us to assemble a world-class team made up of developers with a proven track record in delivering top-rated games. We know what it takes to develop a Game of the Year title, and we also know that the title needs the support of a strong publisher to make the game a success."

During the transition, the team was said to be working on a new, unannounced title in one of Activision's "existing franchises," which was later teased to be the publisher's innovative new action property. Many thought this would be a title to replace Brutal Legend, which they lost to EA. Then again, Activision are now working to make the James Bond series an annual occurrence. The Visceral guys are certainly adept at shooters and, now, hack-n-slash romps. Commence speculation!
