Earlier this month all of the Fallout: New Vegas shots that had been exclusive to fancy print magazines were finally made available in high-resolution for us internet dwellers, but those weren't all that are out there. Someone always has to have a little something extra that they hold back.
Over on GamesRadar, the site posted a couple of new images of Obsidian's open-world RPG, revealing an awesome sniper perch located inside the mouth of Dinky the Dinosaur (who we've already become familiar with), as well as Black mountain Radio Tower, located at New Vegas' center, and populated by many a Super Mutant.
There's also a concept piece for The Strip itself (which avoided direct blasts from the nukes), in addition to the Helios One solar power station, a location that will play a pivotal role in some of your decision making early on. Nifty stuff for your Fallout-starved brains to consume while we await gameplay footage.
Part two of the Red Dead Redemption "People of the West" feature made its way online this weekend, with Rockstar giving us ample time to get acquainted with more of the Western's quirky, sometimes violent cast of characters. Does that guy up there look like he needs an introduction, though? Call him Mr. Top Hat. He looks like he'd fit in nicely in the world of Fable, no?
Hit the jump to see the likes of Shaky the hoodlum, Harold McDougal the professor, Walton Lowe the local gang leader, and even government agent Archer Fordham, among others. Check out the full site to get detailed bios on them all.
Red Dead Redemption was recently delayed, now slated to launch on May 18th.
Modern Warfare 2's Stimulus Package is still without any official details in regards to its included maps, but it looks like Microsoft have let the cat out of the bag on Infinity Ward's first DLC add-on. The 328MB map pack has popped up on Xbox LIVE Marketplace this weekend, and reveals that the five new multiplayer maps are as follows:
"Bailout" - a multi-level apartment complex
"Storm" - an open industrial park littered with heavy machinery
"Salvage" - a snowy junkyard fortified by stacked debris and crushed cars.
"Crash" - a war-torn urban environment
"Overgrown" - features a massive dry creek bed
Yes, that would confirm that, as was previously rumored, two maps from Call of Duty 4 are returning with a new coat of polish. Sadly, there is no word yet on how much this content will cost gamers. Chances are it won't be free (this is Activision, after all), but "stimulus package" would imply a gift. Unless that's just clever world play. Come on, ActiBlizz, make it happen. You've made zillion dollars off this game already; a small thank you to the community wouldn't be so bad, would it?
The creators of Ratchet & Clank, Resistance and Spyro might soon be enjoying time on Xbox 360, according to anonymous sources whispering secrets to IGN at GDC 2010.
The site reports that Insomniac Games -- who are merely a close Sony partner, but not an owned first-party studio -- are working on secret, unannounced multiplatform software which remains unannounced and secret. Insomniac are without a doubt prepping Resistance 3, but as for what the future holds beyond that, that's anybody's guess. Sony do hold the rights to Ratchet and Resistance, though, so it won't be anything set in either of those series.
Rumor had it last year that the studio had a multiplatform survival horror shooter in the works, one that didn't even have a final name yet, but it was never confirmed or denied. Curious. E3, maybe?
Insomniac's president cited the report as rumor and speculaton. In addition, the company's community manager expressed his thoughts on NeoGAF: "But c'mon, didn't we just deal with this rumor like two months ago? And a few months before that? And so on?"
The Grinder was originally a Wii-excluisve title, before it went dark, re-emerging as a multiplatform, gritty, co-op survival horror shooter earlier this year. Developer High Voltage Software said at the time that making the move to high-def allowed for the character models to "pop more and our environments have much greater detail. With the inclusion of physics objects, the game has really taken on new life" than the one it had on the Wii. The trailer that debuted looked fairly impressive, especially for a game that was delayed until Halloween 2011, but it turns out we were duped. That was not the Grinder we'll be getting.
High Voltage showed off the new version of The Grinder at GDC, and revealed it -- on Xbox 360 and PS3, at least -- as a top-down, much more vibrant arcade shooter, complete with the standard dual-analog control scheme.
According to IGN, the game is still the same from a concept point of view, with all the same settings, enemies, characters and themes, but the switch to its new perspective helps it avoid being a "me too" title, like Left 4 Dead, which was its direct competition previously.
Interesting decision. It wasn't mentioned if the game still be a retail release, or if High Voltage will be grinding up Xbox LIVE Arcade. If I had to make a wild guess, I'd say it'll be the latter.
You remember Marathon, right? The classic Bungie shooter that pre-dated Halo: Combat Evolved? The game home to a universe that many a fan speculated Master Chief has traveled to at the end of Halo 3? Yeah, that Marathon. Bungie has re-trademarked it this week. Hmm.
Now, don't go jumping to conclusions. This probably means nothing; it's likely the independent studio is just making sure they still hang onto the name. Bungie has openly stated that their next project after Halo: Reach will be a brand new IP, set in a totally new universe, so it's doubtful we're looking at a next-gen entry. Not right now, anyway.
Marathon 2: Durandal hit XBLA a good while back and did pretty well, maybe the first game is headed to the service too? One of the reasons Bungie skipped the first Marathon for LIVE, in favor of the sequel, was because of technical issues relating to the game's programming for 68k Macs in System 7. It's been a few years; perhaps they've solved those issues.
"War requires the sledgehammer, but will be decided with the scalpel."
EA and DICE are gunning for the FPS crown once again with their Battlefield and Medal of Honor series, and the co-developed Afghanistan-set modern day reboot of the latter keeps looking better. Though I have to be honest when I say that my early comments about how it doesn't look like an Unreal Engine 3 title are now invalid.
The full trailer for Medal of Honor, including quite a bit of the footage from last falls teaser, hit the web tonight, where our Tier 1 Operators talk up their mission and just how badass they are, doing what they do. It's serious business, this war stuff. And no one it better fit for it.
Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions outed 16 March 2010 23:56
Spider-Man spins another web later this year, with Activision recently confirming the next interactive wall-crawling adventure will drops sometime in 2010. What that game is, though, remains a...
