Ubisoft confirmed that a sequel to their innovative voice-controlled RTS, EndWar, was in the works last year, saying the team "couldn’t put a time" on when it would arrive.
"After the first one, now we have a really good understanding of what to do, and we’ve solved lots of the hardest problems, which are accessibility, camera, controls, rendering that many characters, having that game work in 3D, our online as well, having persistent campaigns, having persistent player armies, so we’ve kind of done the hard stuff. There’s a really clear path forward there," said lead designer Michael de Plater.
But the project is not big priority right now, it appears. Speaking to VG247, de Plater says, "[EndWar 2 is] on the backburner." Well, that's disappointing, though no explanation for the seemingly temporary shelving was given. EndWar 2 is/was in development at Ubisoft Shanghai, the same team currently plugging away on the "totally re-engineered" and long-delayed I Am Alive.
Perhaps Ubisoft just want to keep all eyes on R.U.S.E. -- their second original RTS property, recently delayed -- as long as possible.
