At the FBR Capital Markets 2009 Fall Investor Conference, Danny Bilson, head of THQ's core gaming group, confirmed that a sequel to the not-yet-released shooter Homefront is in the cards. Homefront is the next big title from Kaos Studios, developers of the Battlefield-esque Frontlines: Fuel of War, and was billed as its spiritual successor at the announcement earlier this year. Bilson also described to attendees how the publisher will manage to compete with similar products next fall like Call of Duty, and Medal of Honor. Interestingly, Homefront will play host to both episodic campaign content, as well as DLC for the multiplayer.
"[Homefront] is about a guy moving some fuel. That's what the single-player is about, to restart some vehicles and retake the Golden Gate Bridge. It's the beginning of a story. We're going to tell this like a serial, with cliff-hangers. And then we intend to continue the story in [downloadable content], until we go to Homefront 2. ... This is one of our big bets, I'll be honest. People say, 'Why are you going into this Call of Duty space?' And it's because I know we can compete. I know we can compete. ... [Kaos will] build the best online battlefield."
As for why a sequel to Frontlines, which was a fairly decent experience, isn't happening? Bilson said that the 2007 near-future shooter was "an incomplete experiment under pressure to ship."
