When the skateboard peripheral for Activision and Robomodo's Tony Hawk: RIDE was unveiled, it was stated that it could be used for a variety of sports titles like snowboarding, surfing, wakeboarding, etc. Though, if the games weren't developed/published by Activision, they'd probably have to go through a big compatability obstacle course.

But it seems that Activision do have plans for ongoing, non-Tony Hawk-related support for the expensive device, which is only good news for those that lay down the cash to purchase it. You're not buying a peripheral, you're investing in a platform. Speaking with Videogamer today, Robomodo president Joshua Tsui says:

"It's really important to us that when people buy this package that they understand that, right now we're concentrating on Tony Hawk Ride, but we want to make sure that people have a good return on their investment so there are many games that are planned for this peripheral ... The obvious ones are snowboarding and surfing and such, but there are a lot of games that can be used with this board, and we're really excited to start working on those."

So just like your living room-occupying music controllers that you once thought would be cheap, one-time deals ... that's not the case! Fantastic. We look forward to motion sensing board-based sports titles taking over in the years to come. Look out, lazy gamers, the days of just using controllers to simulate sports are over.
