Aside from the above (and after the jump) concept art, all we've seen so far of Ubisoft's new Prince of Persia title is a CG teaser trailer, which depicts the desert traveler going up against some sand things, and fleeing crumbling buildings. And looking a lot like Jake Gyllenhaal. That's to be expected though, since The Forgotten Sands is a tie-in to Disney's Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time movie in the spring.
New (and question-raising) details on the quickly approaching release were given out today, revealing that The Forgotten Sands will be set ... between the original Sands of Time, and its sequel, Warrior Within? How's that gonna work, Ubisoft? Saying it's the "next chapter in the fan-favorite Sands of Time universe" would suggest that storyline has been revived. But for how long?
"Visiting his brother's kingdom following his adventure in Azad, the Prince finds the royal palace under siege from a mighty army bent on its destruction. When the decision is made to use the ancient power of the Sand in a desperate gamble to save the kingdom from total annihilation, the Prince will embark on an epic adventure in which he will learn to bear the mantle of true leadership, and discover that great power often comes with a great cost."
Gone is the one-on-one combat from last year's Prince of Persia; instead, players will face "huge-scale multi-enemy combat" in between their "dizzying feats of acrobatic prowess in gigantic environments." Time control also makes its return, and the ability to control nature itself makes a debut. The game is being developed on Assassin's Creed's Anvil engine technology, so if nothing else the game will look amazing. Cautiously optimistic? You bet. The Forgotten Sands is due out in time for the film's May 28th, 2010 release.
