Crytek spill first details on Crysis 2; set in a "new style of jungle"

The February 2010 issue of PC Gamer Magazine has the first, tiny morsels of information and in-game screens (one above) of EA and Crytek's hotly anticipated, yet secretive Crysis sequel. Announced -- well, teased -- all the way back at EA's E3 press conference, all we've seen so far is the new and improved Nanosuit 2.0, the supersoldier armor our protagonist will be wearing that assists in the killing of aliens and bad guys. That, and glimpses of the CryENGINE 3 technology.

Nathan Camarillo, executive producer on Crysis 2, tells the magazine that the sequel won't take place on another tropical island setting as we're used to. Instead, Crysis 2 makes the jump to a "new style of jungle" -- something they aren't ready to fully discuss just yet.

"We are applying our expertise to a new style of "jungle" which we will discuss more in the upcoming months, but it is definitely far from tropical," says Camarillo. "We are very excited to introduce Crysis-style sandbox gameplay to a different, yet ultimately familiar environment."

He adds that the team "expects to have increased verticality over the traditional Crysis sandbox," and as such the enemy AI is being overhauled to utilize their new surroundings. When queried on the ever present "Crysis is going to consoles, so the design must be gimped" topic, Camarillo explains that that's "not necessarily" the case. "In some ways it has allowed us to avoid overdesigning features, to keep the focus narrower and tight for a compelling experience on all platforms."

Further, Crytek want their Far Cry successor to finally be included among the "successful cross-platform shooter franchises." "There are many successful cross-platform shooter franchises on the market, and it's time that Crysis sat proudly among that group. ... Crytek will always push the technological boundaries." Crysis 2 is currently slated for release in the latter half of 2010, though no official date has been set.

maybe it just means its not on an island this time.... which means will have mountains or invisible barriers telling us get back to the player area or the sand monkeys will kill you.

Dear crytek, you have complete forgot about us pc gamers in favor of consoles. You not only set the game on medium high settings, however you are gimping the pc version as well. The first mistake was merging your console team with your pc team. Now your second mistake is to make smaller levels which takes away from the sandbox gameplay. Your biggest mistake is you didn't realise you created a photorealistic game with crysis, warhead looks like a low textured mess and now crysis 2 looks inferior. You failed with your cryengine 3, which is more about efficiency than effectiveness.

i tell you crytek you better not butcher this game!
i loved crysis sooooooooooooooooooooooo much!
i expect crysis 2 to come out, and no one, not even my 4 thousand dollar PC to be able to play it on max settings, just like what happened when crysis came out.
thats the level of quality im expecting from yous, because thats what you promise and thats what you normally deliver.
please dont betray my trust and faith in you.
"maximum game" is your motto.

@ HitmanAgent47

how do you know, you played the game already have you?
o BTW they have not merged their PC team with their console team, crytek are working on the PC game where crytek UK (previously known as free radical) are working on the console version.

Crytec didnt betray pc gamers, pc gamers betrayed crytec by illegally downloading the game. I'm not saying you guys did, but most PC gamers did. Thats why they are leaning towards the consoles. And they are trying to improve the engine. Its sloppy coding that they are cleaning up. Thus making the game more smoother. Its not taking away from the graphics. and the game comes with system requirements written on the box, maybe you should read them to check if your PC qualifies to play the game. I run the game fine and im not sporting anything fancy. your probably running AA, which is a waste of system resources considering you dont need it for a game like crysis.

I run Crysis with an Nvidia 7900 GS (Low-Med) so don't complain that your GPU isn't good enough.

I took my first loans when I was 20 and this supported my business a lot. Nevertheless, I need the auto loan also.
