Yes, that's an official "screenshot" of Crysis 2. And yes, that's in-engine. On the Xbox 360. Impressive, no? Crytek's CryENGINE 3 looks to be doing some wondrous things in the graphics departments, especially on the inferior console hardware. The first glimpses at Crysis' sequel are finally out in the pages of Germany's PC Games magazine, and the scans have already hit the net and their contents (roughly) translated, giving up some early details on what gamers can expect when they take their Nanosuit 2.0 wearing soldier to New York City. According to the rag, the console versions are hoping to be rendered at full 720p, with 2xMSAA.
Crysis 2 takes place three years after the first game, in the year 2023. "The Aliens changed most of the World into a warzone. Rio De Janeiro, London, and Tokyo were attacked and almost all life was destroyed," the magazine says. The new location of an invaded NYC is a far cry from its predecessor, but the preview states the city has the "feeling of being lost in the jungle like environments ... Broken water pipes, crumbling buildings and torn-up streets represent the shrubbery and trees instead of forest-canopy."
Vertical combat will feature heavily, with executive producer Nathan Camarillo saying, "In the city you can jump on buses, on trucks, in the first floor, in the crater - there are different levels. ... The fight must take place of course, still in a certain frame. But you can, for example, plan to attack from above or so and give you an advantage." It's even hinted that civilians will be stranded here and there. "In any disaster there are lunatics who ignore the warnings and stay behind."
A "tighter focus" on storytelling is being made (with it being up to the player how much they want to invest in it), and there will even be audio logs as in BioShock that players can find and listen to throughout the city. As for the new Nanosuit 2.0, it has four modes: Power (a combination of power and speed), Infiltration (cloak), Tactic (scan), and Armor.
Much more is buried within the pages of the publication, so head over and read up on the game. Hit the jump for a few of the images.
